Cultural & Seasonal Events
Seasonal events that are designed to draw the community together around items of the cultural heritage of the Somali Bantu community. These events include family gatherings, evenings of music and dance, religious festival celebrations, and educational events for the larger Pittsburgh community about Somali Bantu culture.
As a refugee community being placed in the U.S. culture, the older generation is seeing many of their cultural values not only challenged and misunderstood but also that some of the younger generations are beginning to lose some of their cultural values and be heavily influenced by American culture. These community events are for not only the greater Pittsburgh community but also for the Somali Bantu community youth to continue learning about their own cultural heritage.
